Pella Sietas bags Russian icebreaker order

German shipbuilder Pella Sietas has secured an order for a new icebreaker to be used by Russia’s Rosmorport.

The vessel will have a length of 120 metres, a beam of 27.5 metres, and a draught of 8.5 metres. It will be designed to operate in temperatures as low as -40°C.

Delivery will take place in 2023. In addition to performing icebreaking duties, the vessel may also be used for firefighting, search and rescue (SAR), and cargo transport.

The contract for the icebreaker is valued at approximately €100 million (US$111 million).
