Dutch builder launches second ship in series ordered by Thun Tankers

Dutch shipbuilder Ferus Smit has launched the second vessel in a series ordered by Swedish tanker operator Thun Tankers.

Thun Reliance was launched at Ferus Smit’s facilities in Leer, Germany. It is the second in a planned vessels boasting an innovative design with adaptive propulsion to minimise energy usage, adaptibility for installation of a shore electricity connection, a battery pack, and resource-efficient machinery.

The ordered vessels are part of Thun Tankers’ fleet renewal program, carefully tailor-made to reduce the carbon footprint and meet clients’ future demands.

Upon completion, the tanker will have an LOA of 114.95 metres, a moulded beam of 15.87 metres, a draught of 6.95 metres, a deadweight tonnage of 7,999, and 13 coated cargo tanks with a total capacity of 9,500 cubic metres. Power will be provided by a 1,950kW main engine.

Construction will be in compliance to Finnish/Swedish Ice Class 1A requirements to ensure year-round service in the Baltic Sea.
