Echebastar orders new tuna vessel

Basque fishing company Echebastar has placed an order for a new freezer tuna vessel with Zamakona Shipyard.

President of Zamakona Shipyard, Pedro Garaygordóbil, and Echebastar CEO Kepa Etxebarria signed the deal for the purse seiner, which will have the capacity to freeze fish to -60°C as well as conventional freezing wells for tuna destined for the canning sector.

Campolibre Alai will also have safe zones and anti-piracy systems.

The Bermeo-based Echebastar has a fleet of five tuna vessels. The newbuild will join the Echebastar fleet of Euskadi Alai, Jai Alai, Izaro, Alakrana and Elai Alai.
