Operations begin at world’s first emissions-free fish farm

FISHING/AQUACULTURE WEEK

Norwegian salmon farming company Bremnes Seashore has begun operating the world’s first emissions-free fish farm.

Located in Ålfjorden in Sveio Municipality, the facility is powered entirely by electricity. The shore power supply not only reaches the feed barge, but goes all the way out to the pens, and supplies renewable energy to all heavy-duty operations.

An electrically-powered work boat has also been deployed at the farm for support duties. In future, Bremnes will add a second electric vessel for personnel transport work at the facilities.

The pilot project is a partnership between The Bellona Foundation, energy storage specialist ABB, and many other subcontractors.
