Síldarvinnslan orders new trawler from Karstensens

Icelandic fishing company Síldarvinnslan has ordered a new pelagic vessel with Danish shipbuilder Karstensens Skibsværft.

The ship will be named Börkur and is scheduled to be delivered to Siltarvinnslan by the end of 2020. Börkur will replace the existing Börkur, which has been owned by Síldarvinnslan since 2014, and the new ship will be the fifth vessel owned by the company.

Börkur will be constructed for float and rhino fishing. The length of the ship will be 88 metres, the beam 16.6 metres and depth 9.6 metres, with gross tonnage of 4,100.

The main engines will be two 3,200kW models. The total number of cooling tanks will be 13, with a total of 3,420 cubic metres. Accommodation in the ship will fit 16 crew.
