Boat crews of the Philippine Coast Guard successfully rescued both occupants of a fishing vessel that had capsized off Batangas province on Monday, July 19.

The coast guard first learned of the incident via a radio message from personnel at the Batangas Vessel Traffic Monitoring System (VTMS) saying that two fishermen were adrift off the Cape Santiago lighthouse in the town of Calatagan.

Coast guard crews aboard an aluminium rescue boat immediately deployed to the area and safely pulled the two castaways out of the water. The fishermen, who have since been reunited with their respective families, suffered no serious injuries.

An investigation revealed that the fishermen had sailed out to sea despite the poor weather conditions in the area.
