Fishing boat capsizing leaves four dead off Bataan, Philippines

Four people were killed while a fifth individual has gone missing after a fishing boat capsized off Bataan province in the northern Philippines on Thursday, June 23.

The banca-type outrigger boat Gra Twin Sister, which had 50 people on board, keeled over while approximately 18 nautical miles off the town of Bagac on Thursday.

The Philippine Coast Guard deployed a response vessel and a helicopter to the fishing boat’s last reported position to conduct search and rescue (SAR) operations.

Coast guard personnel pulled 45 survivors, four deceased individuals, and the capsized boat out of the water during the subsequent SAR effort. However, no trace of the sole missing crewman has yet been found by Monday, June 27.

The coast guard has requested the crews of vessels sailing through the area to assist in locating the body of the missing victim.
