Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine National Police Maritime Group have successfully rescued all 11 crewmembers of a commercial fishing vessel that capsized off the southern province of Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday, November 30.

The coast guard learned of the incident involving the fishing vessel Jaya-1 at around 22:05 local time on Wednesday via an eyewitness report about the capsizing, which occurred just minutes prior.

The coast guard and the police immediately deployed rescue craft to Jaya-1‘s last reported position. All 11 of the boat’s crew were safely pulled out of the water less than two hours after the eyewitness report was received.

Due to strong currents, the survivors ended up at various points across a stretch of more than two kilometres in the waters of Zamboanga del Sur.

The coast guard said a Philippine Navy vessel later arrived on-scene and towed the capsized boat to the nearest shoreline.
