South Korea's Taihan Cable and Solution has renamed the recently acquired cable laying vessel (CLV) Skandi Connector to Taihan Connector.
Taihan signed the purchase agreement for the CLV with DOF on May 14, 2026, and took delivery of the vessel at Gamcheon Port in Busan in July.
The 138.4-metre Taihan Connector was built in 2016 and can carry up to 7,000 tonnes of cable in a single load. Her equipment includes a DP2 system, a large cable carousel, and tensioners.
The company said the CLV's flat-bottom hull suits shallow coastal waters with strong tidal currents, such as those off Korea's west coast.
According to Taihan, the vessel has completed 27 projects and installed about 1,300 kilometres of submarine cable in Europe and other markets.
The vessel joins Palos, which Taihan acquired in November 2023 and which has a cable capacity of up to 4,400 tonnes. Taihan has described the pair as the sole two-vessel CLV operation in South Korea focused on offshore wind projects.
The company said the vessels will be used to install inter-array cables and export cables for long-distance grid interconnections and for HVDC submarine cable projects.
In August, Taihan scheduled the vessel to bury cables using a trencher remotely operated vehicle at the Yeonggwang Nakwol offshore wind project, where Palos had installed two export cable lines in 2025. Palos is also assigned to lay inter-array cable for the 532MW Anma offshore wind project.
