Focus on Offshore Oil, Gas and Renewables Operations

This month’s focus on the offshore sector includes reviews of vessels in the extraction and maintenance sectors. A new diamond mining vessel begins operations in Namibia as China places a large-capacity jackup drilling rig into service in home waters. Maintenance support newbuilds meanwhile include a Chinese platform supply vessel (PSV), a Norwegian-owned service operation vessel (SOV), and a crewboat for deployment in Taiwan.

We also have a scheduled feature on an innovative project in Australia wherein energy from ocean waves can be utilised as an alternative source of electricity for commercial use. Similar technologies are also undergoing development in other countries. However, this will be among the first applications of wave energy besides installation on seagoing vessels.
