Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) held a launching ceremony for a new South Korean Navy frigate on Monday, May 3.

The future ROKS Daejeon is the fifth Daegu-class frigate that DSME is building for the South Korean Navy. The vessel honours Daejeon, South Korea’s fifth most populous city.

Once completed, the vessel will measure 122 by 14 metres and displace approximately 2,800 tonnes. Armament will include anti-ship missiles, point defence weapon systems, and a 127-millimetre naval gun.

The vessel will also have a maximum speed of 30 knots.

The future Daejeon will be delivered to the navy by early 2023.
