The Malaysian government has revised the contract for the construction of four littoral mission ships (LMS) for the Royal Malaysian Navy.
All four vessels will now be built in China by a China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) affiliate, hence voiding the original provision that two of the vessels will be built in Malaysia by local company Boustead Naval Shipyard (BNS).
Further, Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation (BHIC), BNS’ parent company, has confirmed a change in contract price from MYR1.17 billion (US$290 million) to MYR1.05 billion (US$260 million).
The first two vessels are currently in various stages of construction at Wuchang Shipbuilding’s facilities.
