Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has entered into an agreement with South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) regarding the conceptual design of a new class of aircraft carriers slated for the South Korean Navy.

Basic design work will commence in the second half of 2021 whereas the detail design and construction of the lead ship will commence in the following years.

The South Korean Defence Ministry had earlier said it expects the new carriers to begin entering service in 2030.
