Upgraded berths three and four at the Guangzhou Tower sightseeing vessel terminal in the city of Guangzhou in China have passed hand-over acceptance, the Guangzhou Port Authority (GPA) said on Monday, October 26.

This acceptance completes hand-over of the terminal's redevelopment in the inner harbour area of Guangzhou Port. The project upgraded two existing berths and added a third, with a total investment of about CNY30 million (US$4.5 million).

Berths three and four occupy 145 metres of shoreline. Each can now accommodate vessels of 2,000 GT, compared with 500 GT previously.

The new berth five, designed for 2,000GT sightseeing vessels, passed hand-over acceptance at the end of 2025. It extends the terminal by 87 metres, and the GPA gives the extension a design annual throughput of 1.8 million passenger movements.

The authority said the works have increased berthing capability at the terminal and will support development of Pearl River sightseeing operations. It added that it will oversee subsequent operation of the project and continue work on supporting facilities.

In September 2025, the GPA included Guangzhou Tower terminal in a wider programme of upgrades to accommodate 2,000GT vessels, alongside the Wealth and Exhibition Centre terminals. At the same time, it reported more than 4.27 million Pearl River sightseeing passenger movements in 2024, up from 4.14 million in 2023.

The sightseeing fleet then comprised 39 vessels with 10,690 passenger places, including 10 fully electric vessels. The authority announced CNY400 million (US$60 million) of investment to add 10 more electric vessels and forecast an electric fleet of 20 by the end of 2026.

Recent additions include the 435-passenger Jixiangfang and the 360-passenger Zhuangyuanfang. Both electric vessels were delivered to Guangzhou Public Transport Group Passenger Ferry for nighttime operations on the Pearl River.
