Canary Islands ferry operator Fred Olsen Express transported 1.01 million tonnes of freight between January and October 2026, an increase of two per cent on the corresponding period of 2025.
Cargo occupied 1.45 million lane metres, up four per cent year on year, the company said. Its dedicated Ro-Ro vessels completed 1,273 sailings, six per cent more than in the first 10 months of 2025. Combined sailings by the operator's fast ferries and Ro-Ro vessels totalled approximately 19,000, broadly unchanged on the previous year.
Compared with 2023, tonnage has risen 54 per cent and lane metres 37 per cent.
Food accounted for nearly 40 per cent of cargo volume. Water and other beverages made up around 30 per cent, parcels approximately five per cent and textiles three per cent. The Ro-Ro vessels have carried more than 3,000 units of dangerous goods so far in 2026.
The company established its dedicated freight service in 2024 with Bentayga Cargo and Bahía Cargo, each with a capacity of up to 1,800 lane metres and 9,000 tonnes.
The 138.5-metre Breñas Cargo, which can carry up to 1,500 lane metres and 7,000 tonnes, joined in July 2025 when the operator launched a freight route between Tenerife and La Palma.
The service now provides daily connections between the capital islands and the eastern islands, a weekly rotation with La Palma, and mainland links via Huelva with a crossing time of less than 48 hours.
Fred Olsen Express carried 1.2 million tonnes of freight across 1.67 million lane metres over the whole of 2025.
