A US operator has taken delivery of the fourth vessel in a new series of LNG-powered ships. Four different Asian yards have meanwhile secured orders from customers in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Norway.

Crowley's newest LNG-fuelled container vessel departed Port Everglades in Florida earlier this week to begin her maiden commercial voyage.

Torogoz is the fourth in a series of containerships to be built by South Korea's HD Hyundai Mipo for Crowley. Like her earlier sisters Quetzal, Copan and Tiscapa, she will be operated on Crowley’s US-to-Central America routes.

Hanwha Philly Shipyard in Pennsylvania has laid the keel of a new container vessel ordered by shipping company Matson.

The ship will be the first in a series of three container vessels that Hanwha Philly is building for Matson. Deliveries of all three ships are scheduled to take place between 2027 and 2028.

TS Lines orders four more 5,300TEU newbuilds for $245m

Hong Kong-based TS Lines announced on August 7 that it has entered into contracts for the construction of four new 5,300TEU container vessels. The aggregate consideration for the four ships is $245.12 million, with each vessel costing $61.28 million.

The new order was placed with builders Huangpu Wenchong and China Shipbuilding Trading (CSTC). The vessels are expected to be delivered between June 2028 and December 2028. The consideration for each vessel will be paid in six installments based on construction milestones.

Taiwanese shipping line Yang Ming announced on July 24 that it will order three additional 8,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel-ready containerships from Japan's Nihon Shipyard and Imabari Shipbuilding.

The new order, which was approved at a company board meeting, is in addition to three similar vessels purchased in March. This brings the total order for this vessel type to six ships, all of which are scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2030.

MPC Container Ships taps Chinese yard for 4,500TEU newbuildings

Norwegian shipping company MPC Container Ships (MPCC) has awarded contracts for four 4,500TEU container vessels with Chinese shipyard Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering, with deliveries scheduled from the second half of 2027.

The total investment amounts to US$228 million. MPCC holds several options for additional vessels, offering what the company said is future scalability in line with market opportunities.
