Crowley's newest containership departs on maiden commercial voyage
Crowley's newest LNG-fuelled container vessel departed Port Everglades in Florida earlier this week to begin her maiden commercial voyage.
Torogoz is the fourth in a series of containerships to be built by South Korea's HD Hyundai Mipo for Crowley. Like her earlier sisters Quetzal, Copan and Tiscapa, she will be operated on Crowley’s US-to-Central America routes.
The vessels belong to a series that Crowley said is uniquely suited to quickly transport perishable goods like food and pharmaceuticals, as well as retail products, apparel, breakbulk cargo and other essential items.
Torogoz has an LOA of 170 metres (560 feet), a beam of 28 metres (92 feet), a draught of 7.9 metres (26 feet), and a container capacity of 1,400 TEUs including 300 refrigerated containers. An ME-GI engine supplied by MAN can deliver a service speed of just over 15 knots.
"Because of Torogoz's capacity for diverse dry and refrigerated goods, Crowley can provide faster, high-capability service with reliability that is unmatched in the trade," said Claudia Kattan-Jordan, Crowley Logistics' Vice President for Central America, Panama and Mexico.
