TS Lines orders four more 5,300TEU newbuilds for $245m
Hong Kong-based TS Lines announced on August 7 that it has entered into contracts for the construction of four new 5,300TEU container vessels. The aggregate consideration for the four ships is $245.12 million, with each vessel costing $61.28 million.
The new order was placed with builders Huangpu Wenchong and China Shipbuilding Trading (CSTC). The vessels are expected to be delivered between June 2028 and December 2028. The consideration for each vessel will be paid in six installments based on construction milestones.
This new contract follows a previous order placed with the same builders in September 2024 for two 4,300TEU vessels. The company announced that the 2024 contract is now being amended to modify the specifications of those two vessels, increasing their size to 5,300TEU to match the new order. This brings the total newbuilding program with the builders to six identical 5,300TEU container ships.
The company stated that the construction of the six vessels will increase its owned fleet size and total shipping capacity, enabling it to better capture market opportunities. It added that the new vessels are expected to be more fuel-efficient and “environmentally friendly”, thereby reducing operating costs.
