Two people are confirmed dead while four others suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a tour boat and another vessel collided just off Johor State in southern Malaysia on Monday, August 31.
The incident occurred at around 21:00 (local time) on Monday when the two vessels collided near the Kuala Sungai Mersing Estuary.
Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia; JBPM) and local police were immediately dispatched to the Mersing jetty to render assistance.
The two deceased victims have been identified as a boat captain and a passenger. However, it remains unclear whether the two victims were embarked on the same boat at the time of the incident.
A JBPM spokesperson said the two deceased victims have since been handed over to police officials while the four injured individuals are being treated.
Local authorities said that they are still investigating the incident and that a statement will be released soon.
