A US windfarm support specialist has taken delivery of a new crewboat while construction continues on a hybrid supply vessel in China. Recently placed orders include those for SOVs and crewboats for deployment off Africa.

North Star taps Norwegian builder for hybrid SOV pair

UK operator North Star has selected Norwegian shipbuilder Vard for the design and construction of two hybrid service operation vessels (SOVs) in a series.

Designed by Vard Design in Ålesund, the SOVs will each have a length of 87.5 metres, a beam of 19.5 metres, a height-adjustable motion-compensated gangway with elevator system, a boat landing system, and accommodation for up to 120 personnel.

Nexans, Crowley to develop new cable laying barge

Cable installation specialist Nexans has formed a partnership with Crowley Wind Services to develop and operate a Jones Act-compliant cable laying barge.

The 300-foot (90-metre), US-flagged barge, will be built in Louisiana and tested in the US Gulf to Nexans' specifications. It will be crewed by American mariners under Crowley’s operation.

St. Johns Ship Building has delivered the second in a series of two crewboats ordered by Atlantic Wind Transfers.

Atlantic Endurance was designed by UK naval architecture firm Chartwell Marine. Like her earlier sister Atlantic Resolute, she is of all-aluminium construction and is capable of transporting up 24 personnel to and from offshore wind turbines.

Fully commissioned and currently available for charter, the crewboat is Jones Act-compliant and certified under US Coast Guard Subchapter L.

Bourbon's future crewboats to support Eni's operations off Congo

French offshore vessel operator Bourbon has entered into a five-year agreement with Eni Congo for the charter of six new crewboats in a series.

Bourbon said the new crewboats are scheduled to be commissioned progressively between June and December 2026. Pending their delivery, six vessels will be temporarily mobilised to ensure operational continuity from the start of the contract.

CIMC subsidiary launches new hybrid platform supply vessel

Chinese shipbuilder Nantong CIMC Pacific Offshore Engineering held a launching ceremony on July 10 for a new hybrid oil platform supply vessel, designated hull number S1095.

According to information from CIMC, the 81.7-metre vessel has a beam of 17.4 metres, a design draft of 6.3 metres, and a load capacity of 4,000 tons. The ship has a deck cargo area of 800 square metres and is designed to transport a variety of materials including methanol, fresh water, fuel oil, cement, mud, and deck cargo.
