Best Engine Supplier – Yanmar (Power Equipment)

Power Equipment has steadily entrenched the Yanmar name in the Australian marine market. Yanmar diesel engines and associated gensets are renowned for their reliability and economy and Power Equipment, the Australian distributor, for its sales and service. The association has become a very effective and important one.

“The key point that differentiates Yanmar’s range of commercial marine engines is the fact they are purpose built marine engines, not truck, bus or tractor derivatives,” Power Equipment’s Matthew Bray told Ausmarine.

“Block inspection hatches to facilitate in-situ servicing, extended service intervals, long component life and the use of very few flexible coolant or lubricating lines in their design are traits of the Yanmar commercial marine engine range and all combine to provide vessel owners low cost of ownership.”

Yanmar has been building commercial marine engines at their Tsukaguchi Plant in Japan since 1947 , a facility that has a consistent quality control system certified by seven of the world’s leading major classification societies.

Likewise Yanmar is in the rather unique position where it engineers and packages its own marine transmission range to complement its own engine range providing owners with a fully engineered and supported package from a single source.

Yanmar’s range of powerboat engines ranging from 160mhp to 440mhp have a reputation as being strong performers in the “light duty commercial” segment with many engines used in patrol, water taxi and tourism related activities.

“Their reputation for being low weight, compact with excellent fuel economy and durability continues to ensure this segment is dominated by Yanmar,” added Bray.

“Power Equipment has proudly represented Yanmar for some 30 years in the Australian marketplace and during this time has developed an experienced team of marine of marine sales engineers across the country who between them have in excess of 145 years of marine engine application and sales experience.”

Power Equipment also has a dedicated engineering team to perform operational checks on engine installations together with an in-house support team to package customised engine packages for the many and varied applications that they support in both repower and new vessel installations. After sales support is handled by a dedicated network of authorised marine engines dealers combined with company owned branches strategically located in Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and New Zealand.

Yanmar’s commercial engine range in 2020 will be enhanced by a new instrument and monitoring panel range along with ongoing rating introductions for the 6AYEM-GT common rail-equipped six-cylinder, 20-litre engine range.

Yanmar’s Power Boat engine range in 2020 will be extended from 440mhp for both recreational and light duty commercial market segments to include two new engine platforms covering the 485mhp to 640mhp segment.
