The Klaipėda State Seaport Authority (KSSA) of Lithuania has launched a construction tender for the main works in the southern expansion of the Port of Klaipeda.
The selected contractor will form about 100 hectares of new land in the Curonian Lagoon and construct a 1,300-metre quay. The package will also cover dredging, drainage, shoreline protection, and power infrastructure relocation.
The contractor will also undertake part of the construction of one breakwater, install stormwater drainage, and build a protection wall near Kiaulės Nugara Island.
Nearly €600 million (US$680 million) has been allocated to the wider southern development under the KSSA’s 2026–2029 strategic plan. This figure is the project allocation rather than the stated value of the construction contract now being tendered.
The total investment is expected to exceed €1 billion (US$1.1 billion) when future private funding is included, the authority said in its tender announcement.
The future port area is planned to support container traffic and marine engineering. The authority estimates that it could provide capacity for about 30 million tonnes of cargo per year.
The latest tender follows procurement launched in February for the first phase, covering construction of the southern port gates. Lithuanian contractor Tilsta subsequently secured that contract for €24.5 million (US$27.9 million), with site preparation under way by late August.
Design work for the broader expansion began in 2025. The project is intended to address the port’s lack of available expansion land while adding space for privately operated terminals.
