CMA Terminals has completed its acquisition of a 49 per cent stake in Nador Container Terminal, the concession holder for the western container terminal at Morocco's Nador West Med port, Moroccan port operator Marsa Maroc announced on October 15.

The transaction was finalised after approval from the competent authorities.

Marsa Maroc retains a 51 per cent stake in the concession company and 51 per cent of its voting rights. CMA Terminals, a subsidiary of France's CMA CGM Group, holds the remainder.

The completion implements the partnership agreement the two companies signed in October 2025. That agreement gave the joint venture responsibility for managing and developing the terminal.

Marsa Maroc said the terminal will have 900 metres of quay, an 18-metre draught and 37.5 hectares of container yard. The terminal will ultimately be able to handle 1.8 million TEU per year. Operations are scheduled to start in 2027.

The 2025 agreement described commissioning as progressive from 2027. It also specified a total terminal area of 60 hectares and the eventual installation of eight ship-to-shore cranes. The partners said they aimed to position the port as a transshipment hub in the Mediterranean.

Nador West Med lies on Morocco's Mediterranean coast near the Strait of Gibraltar. In January, the royal palace announced that the wider port would begin operating in the fourth quarter of 2026.

It put the port's cost at $5.6 billion and its initial capacity at five million containers, expandable to 12 million.
