Remontowa Shiprepair Yard in Poland has begun conducting sea trials of a new Ro-Pax ferry ordered by local operator Unity Line.
Bursztyn Unity is the second in a two-vessel series ordered by Unity Line for the PolSca Baltic Ferries partnership. The trials, which began on Monday, September 28, are taking place in the southern Baltic before the ship enters service on routes between Poland and Sweden.
The programme is expected to last about two weeks, with speed and manoeuvring checks as well as measurements of noise and vibration. An emergency braking test will measure the ferry’s stopping distance and time and its propulsion system’s response to a sudden high load.
In July, the first trials had been scheduled for August 31 to September 7, with delivery expected in mid-October.
On September 5, PolSca Baltic Ferries management board President Paweł Pluto-Prądzyński said the ferry is ready for sea trials though, “the start date has been postponed because certain formalities still need to be completed.”
PolSca’s published timetable listed a planned first departure for Bursztyn Unity from Świnoujście to Ystad on November 9.
The ferry follows her sister ship, Jantar Unity, which was built in 2025 and has already entered service linking Świnoujście with Swedish ports. A construction update in March described minor adjustments to Bursztyn Unity but no major change to the design.
The PolSca Baltic Ferries partnership brings together Polish operators Unity Line, Polferries, and Euroafrica. The partnership began operations under a common brand and sales system on March 30, 2026.
At 195.6 metres long with a beam of 32.2 metres, Bursztyn Unity will have a capacity for as many as 400 passengers and 270 standard lorries. Her crew complement is 50, and her machinery includes four gas-fuelled engines and a battery system with 1.71 MWh of storage.
