Family-owned barge and shipyard company Hughes Bros has placed a new floating dry dock into operational service in Red Hook in Brooklyn, New York.

The dry dock has been named Michael after Michael Hughes, who had co-founded the company that eventually became Hughes Bros. Design work was undertaken by JMS Naval Architects of Groton, Connecticut, while construction took place at Feeney Shipyard of Kingston, New York.

French aluminium boatbuilder NAVALU has completed construction of a new custom workboat.

The newbuild features a catamaran design that ensures exceptional stability and optimised load capacity for a range of applications.

Key features include a custom-made winch and crane, an integrated moonpool, and an open forward deck for easy transport of buoys and mooring lines.

Canada awards new polar icebreaker contract to Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards

The Canadian Government has awarded a CA$3.15 billion (US$2.19 million) contract to Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards for the construction of one of the Canadian Coast Guard’s (CCG's) future polar icebreakers designated under the country's national shipbuilding strategy.

As part of its fleet renewal plan, the CCG is acquiring two polar icebreakers, the other being built by Chantier Davie Canada.

Hanwha Philly Shipyard has celebrated the keel laying of the fifth and final vessel in the national security multi-mission vessel (NSMV) program.

Commissioned by the US Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD), the NSMV program is designed to provide training for America’s future mariners while also supporting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions when needed.

The Port of Tyne in the UK has invested in a fully electric foiling pilot vessel scheduled to be delivered before the end of this year.

Designed and built by Artemis Technologies in Belfast, the boat is powered by Artemis’ patented electric foil technology, which generates zero operational emissions and offers a cleaner alternative to traditional diesel-powered vessels.
