UK's Port of Tyne invests in hydrofoil pilot boat

Published on:

The Port of Tyne in the UK has invested in a fully electric foiling pilot vessel scheduled to be delivered before the end of this year.

Designed and built by Artemis Technologies in Belfast, the boat is powered by Artemis’ patented electric foil technology, which generates zero operational emissions and offers a cleaner alternative to traditional diesel-powered vessels.

The integration of advanced hydrofoil and electric propulsion technologies ensures a smooth, quiet and safe journey.

The hydrofoil technology also significantly reduces wake impact, minimising disturbance to marine ecosystems, shorelines, and anchored vessels.

The boat will have seating for up to four pilots plus crew, a top speed of 32 knots, a cruising speed of 25 knots, and a maximum foiling range of 55 nautical miles.

Artemis Technologies is building a similar electric hydrofoil pilot boat in fulfilment of an order by the Swedish Maritime Administration. It will be the first pilot boat of its kind deployed in Nordic waters.
