Crowley Fuels takes delivery of second ATB slated for Alaska operations

Crowley Fuels recently took delivery of a new 55,000-barrel articulated tug and barge (ATB).

The 410-foot (124.9-metre) Aurora/Qamun is the second in a series to join the Crowley Alaska fleet after Aveogan/Oliver Leavitt.

Outfitted with EPA Tier IV engines for reduced emissions, the ATB has a range of 4,300 miles (6,920 kilometres) to access most locations in Alaska. The vessel also features Z-drive propulsion and 400hp (298kW) bow thrusters, allowing it to move smoothly in tight areas.

Aurora/Qamun meets Ice Class and Polar Code requirements, which include increased structural framing, shell plating, and extended zero-discharge endurance with shallow water capability.

Master Boat Builders of Coden, Alabama, constructed the tug, and the barge was built by Gunderson Marine, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Greenbrier Companies in Portland, Oregon. Design work was provided by Crowley Fuels sister company Crowley Engineering Services.
