Second Turkish-built tug to join Saam’s Peru fleet

TUG AND SALVAGE WEEK

A new tug built by Turkey’s Sanmar Shipyards has been handed over to Saam Towage for its operations out of the Peruvian port of Callao.

The Robert Allan Ltd-designed RAM Albatros will operate alongside sister RAM Valkyria, which was delivered by Sanmar earlier this year. Both tugs will operate under Saam’s recently established business in the Port of Callao.

Measuring 24.4 by 11.25 metres and powered by two 2,100kW main engines, RAM Albatros can achieve a bollard pull of 70 tonnes and a maximum speed of approximately 13 knots.

A firefighting pump driven through a clutched flexible coupling in front of the port side main engine has a capacity of approximately 2,700 m³/h.
