The Indian Navy has awarded contracts to two separate shipyards for the construction of nine new tugs.

The 25-tonne bollard pull vessels will be built by Titagarh Wagons and Shoft Shipyard in compliance to Indian Register of Shipping rules.

The tugs will provide escort and berthing/unberthing assistance for the navy’s larger surface ships and submarines.
