Salish Heron, Canadian operator BC Ferries’ newest Ro-Pax vessel, commenced sailings between Tsawwassen and the Southern Gulf Islands on Saturday, May 7.

The newbuild is the fourth Salish-class ferry to join the BC Ferries fleet. The vessel has capacity for up to 138 vehicles and 600 passengers and crew.

BC Ferries said the Salish-class vessels were designed for quiet operation. The shape of the hull and electrically controlled propellers deliver low hydrodynamic resistance and a small wake, offering a smoother ride for passengers and a quieter ship that will not disturb marine life in surrounding waters.
