BC Ferries names third Island-class Ro-Pax
BC Ferries recently held a naming ceremony for Island Discovery, the third unit in a series of six diesel-electric hybrid Ro-Pax vessels ordered from Damen Shipyards Group.
The 81-metre vessel is designed to carry 47 vehicles and up to 450 passengers and crew. It arrived in Canada along with sister vessel Island Aurora earlier this year following completion at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania.
Both Island Discovery and Island Aurora are scheduled to enter service in the middle of the year. These two newbuilds and the yet unnamed fifth and sixth Island-class ferries were all ordered from Damen in 2019.
