Norwegian passenger shipping line Bastø Fosen has confirmed that two of its vessels that serve the country’s busiest ferry route will undergo conversion work that will enable them to operate on battery power.

The company will also build shore charging facilities in the cities of Moss and Horten to be used by the ferries Bastø IV and Bastø VI (pictured).

The two vessels will be joined on the Moss-Horten route by a third battery-powered ferry with capacity for 200 cars. This new vessel is currently under construction.

Bastø Fosen expects both shore charging facilities to be completed by August 2021 while Bastø IV and Bastø VI will commence fully-electric sailings by January and June 2022, respectively.
