Safeen Drydocks has added a 230-metre floating dock at Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi, expanding its ship repair and drydocking capacity.
The dock can accommodate ocean-going commercial vessels and offshore rig repair projects. It has a lifting capacity of 21,000 tonnes and is positioned alongside 1,000 metres of quayside.
Safeen Drydocks is a joint venture between AD Ports Group and Premier Marine Engineering Services, with more than 170,000 square metres of facilities across Zayed Port and Khalifa Port.
The additional capacity will also support maintenance of Noatum Maritime’s deep-sea fleet, with the company expecting the expanded facilities to help reduce vessel downtime.
The floating dock follows Safeen Drydocks’ acquisition of Spain-based Balenciaga Shipyard, which includes drydocks, a 105-metre slipway and a 22,385-square-metre manufacturing facility.
“The addition of the floating dock marks an important step in the continued expansion of Safeen Drydocks’ capabilities,” said Captain Ammar Al Shaiba, Chief Executive Officer - Maritime and Shipping Cluster at AD Ports Group.
Al Shaiba said the additional docking capacity would allow the company to handle larger vessels and support maintenance of its own fleet.
