State-owned Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders launched a new submarine into the water at its Mumbai facilities on Thursday, November 12.

The future INS Vagir is the fifth diesel-electric submarine in the indigenously-built Kalvari-class, which are based on the Scorpene-class submarines designed by France’s Naval Group.

The future Vagir will then undergo sea trials. It is scheduled for commissioning before the end of 2022.
