Washington boat builder reopens Tacoma yard to serve US Navy contract

Bremerton, Washington-based Safe Boats International is set to reopen its large craft production facility in Tacoma to enable manufacture of two new Mark VI patrol boats ordered by the US Navy.

The reopening of the facility follows the recent award of a US$19.9 million contract for long-lead time material acquisition as well as pre-production and planning support. Safe Boats said the remaining US$80 million contract award is anticipated in June.

The new patrol boats are slated for operation by the Ukrainian Navy.
