Swedish builder scores contract for 22 new assault craft

Published on:

Swedish shipbuilder Saab has received an order for 22 CB90-class fast assault craft from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration.

The order was booked in the second quarter of 2025 and has a value of approximately SEK900 million (US$90 million).

The boats will be based on Saab's CB90 "next generation" design. All 22 vessels will be manufactured at the company's shipyard in Docksta.

Each boat will have multi-mission capability, a length of 19.4 metres, a beam of 3.8 metres, and a draught of only 0.9 metre. The craft's waterjet propulsion will deliver a top speed of over 40 knots, a cruising speed of 38 knots, and a range of 300 nautical miles.

Deliveries of the CB90 boats will be made continuously over the coming years to the Swedish Royal Navy. An earlier order for 10 boats was placed in July last year.

Examples of the CB90-class have also been donated to Ukraine as part of a Swedish Ministry of Defence military aid package.
