US Navy’s 14th San Antonio-class LPD to be named USS Harrisburg

US Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer has confirmed that the US Navy’s 14th San Antonio-class landing platform dock (LPD) will be named in honour of the city of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
The LPD will be the second US Navy ship to be named Harrisburg. The first was a troopship that had served in the Spanish-American War and in World War I.
The future USS Harrisburg will be constructed at Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) in Pascagoula, Mississippi. It will have an LOA of 208.5 metres, a beam of 31.9 metres, and speeds in excess of 22 knots.
