A US Navy official has confirmed that the service plans to acquire 77 new vessels within the next 15 years.

The number includes 30 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, 15 littoral combat ships, and 32 attack submarines.

The navy’s objective is to have a “battle force inventory” of 355 ships by 2034, the official said.

The destroyers will include 22 Flight III ships which will have weapons, sensors, and radar that navy officials claim will be considerable improvements over the systems on the Arleigh Burke-class vessels currently in service.
