The US Navy commissioned USS Indianapolis, its newest littoral combat ship (LCS), on Saturday, October 26.

Indianapolis is the ninth Freedom-class LCS to be built by Lockheed Martin and the navy’s 17th LCS overall. It is also the fourth US Navy ship to be named in honour of Indiana’s state capital and largest city.

The ship will be assigned to Littoral Combat Ship Squadron Two (LCSRON2) headquartered at Naval Station Mayport, Florida.
