ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) handed over a new Sa’ar 6 corvette to the Israeli Navy on Tuesday, May 4.

The future INS Oz is the second Sa’ar 6 corvette to be built for Israel by a joint venture between TKMS and German Naval Yards Kiel. Two more sister ships are scheduled for delivery before the end of 2021.

The first Israeli Navy vessel to be named after the Hebrew translation of “courage,” the future Oz measures 90 by 13 metres and displaces approximately 1,900 tonnes at full load.

Upon arrival in Israel, the vessel will be fitted with Israeli-made radar and weapon systems including a C-Dome interceptor missile system, Gabriel anti-ship missiles, and Barak 8 surface-to-air missiles.
