The Philippine Navy decommissioned the corvette BRP Rizal (pictured) and the fast attack craft BRP Nicolas Mahusay in a ceremony on Wednesday, January 29.

Rizal is the ex-US Navy Auk-class minesweeper USS Murrelet originally built in 1945 while Nicolas Mahusay first entered service in the 1970s as a Patrol Killer Medium (PKM) of the South Korean Navy. The two vessels were handed over to the Philippines in 1965 and 1998, respectively.

The vessels are being retired partly to make way for new South Korean-built warships that are slated to enter Philippine service beginning this year.
