In a ceremony attended by Pakistani President Dr Arif Alvi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as guests of honour, a new corvette slated for the Pakistan Navy was launched into the water at Istanbul Naval Shipyard (INSY) on Monday, August 16.

The future PNS Babur is one of four MILGEM corvettes that will be built for Pakistan. Under the newbuilding contract, the future Babur and a second ship are being built by INSY while the two remaining corvettes will be constructed in Pakistan by Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works.

The MILGEM corvettes are designed to conduct anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and anti-air warfare.
