Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) launched a new warship into the water at its Nagasaki facilities on Tuesday, June 22.

The future JS Noshiro, named after a river in Akita prefecture, is the third Mogami-class guided missile frigate to be built by MHI for the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF).

The 130- by 16-metre vessel will be powered a Rolls-Royce MT30 gas turbine and two MAN diesel engines in a combined diesel and gas (CODAG) arrangement that will deliver a speed of over 30 knots. Armament will include a 127-millimetre naval gun, anti-ship missiles, surface-to-air missiles, torpedoes, and mines.
