Italian yard launches Qatar’s third Al Zubarah-class corvette

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri launched a new warship into the water at its Muggiano facilities on Thursday, September 30.

The future Al Khor is the third Al Zubarah-class corvette that Fincantieri is building for the Qatari Emiri Navy. Once completed, it will have a length of 107 metres, a beam of 14.7 metres, space for 112 crewmembers, and a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) propulsion system that will deliver a maximum speed of 28 knots.

The corvette will also have storage and launch facilities for rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) and a flight deck and hangar for accommodating one NH90 utility helicopter.

The future Al Khor is scheduled to be delivered in 2022.
