Indonesian state-owned shipbuilder PAL has secured a licence for the construction of two frigates that will utilise a design developed by UK defence firm Babcock International Group.

The frigates will include bespoke design modifications that will make them more suited for operation in Indonesian waters.

The ships will be variants of the Type 31 or Inspiration-class frigates that Babcock will build for the UK Royal Navy.
