The Indian Navy decommissioned its third Godavari-class guided missile frigate in a ceremony in Mumbai on Saturday, May 28.

Named after an Indian river, INS Gomati entered service in 1988 following completion of construction at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders. The ship spent much of its service under the operational control of the navy’s Western Fleet.

The navy said some of Gomati‘s combat systems will be removed and preserved as war relics in an open-air museum near the frigate’s namesake river in Lucknow.
