HHI to build three new Aegis destroyers for South Korean Navy

MARITIME SECURITY WEEK

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has been awarded a ₩6.7 trillion (US$5.7 billion) contract to build three additional Sejong the Great-class destroyers for the South Korean Navy.

Each vessel in the class will have a length of 170 metres, a beam of 21 metres, a displacement of 8,100 tonnes, and a speed of 30 knots.

The destroyers will also be equipped with the Aegis Combat System and will be utilised for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti-ballistic missile (ABM) defence.
