The future USS Paul Ignatius, a US Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyer built by Huntington Ingalls Industries, has successfully completed acceptance trials on December 20.

The ship spent two days in the Gulf of Mexico where it performed a series of demonstrations to validate the quality of construction and compliance with navy specifications and requirements prior to delivery.

The destroyer honours Paul Ignatius, a former US Navy officer who later served as US Secretary of the Navy from 1967 to 1969.
