The Brazilian government has narrowed down from nine to four the contenders for the navy’s Tamandaré-class corvette programme.

The remaining contenders are European designs submitted by the Embraer and ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) consortium Águas Azuis, Damen-Saab Tamandaré, Fincantieri Leonardo Vard (FLV), and Villegagnon composed of Naval Group and Enseada. Each team has a local partner as stipulated in the request for proposals originally issued by the Brazilian Navy in December 2017.

The winning design will be constructed either in Brazil or with the substantial participation of Brazilian companies.
