Fincantieri launches amphibious assault ship Trieste

Fincantieri launched Trieste, a new amphibious assault ship being built for the Italian Navy, at its shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia on Saturday, May 25.

The vessel will be able to embark helicopters and amphibious vehicles via its flight deck and stern well deck, respectively.

It will have a length of 214 metres, a maximum speed of 25 knots, accommodations for 1,000 personnel, and a combined diesel electric or gas (CODLOG) propulsion system.

Although primarily designed for strategic transport of vehicles and personnel, the vessel will also be capable of conducting humanitarian and disaster relief missions.

Delivery of Trieste is scheduled for 2022.
